On Monday, July 6, the City of Brevard announced the new COVID-19 Emergency Response Toolkit for Businesses. The toolkit is designed to help businesses navigate and respond to capacity restrictions, social distancing guidelines, and customer preferences during the pandemic.

The City of Brevard, the Heart of Brevard, and the Downtown Master Plan Committee have been working to provide resources to help support local businesses. As businesses continue to work through capacity constraints and physical distancing guidelines, the partners are providing a variety of tools to assist businesses in temporarily creating safe outdoor spaces.

The toolkit provides information on what businesses are allowed to do without a permit as well as the procedures for the new, fee-free, COVID-19 Use Permit. The new permit will streamline the permitting of temporary uses and special events related to capacity restrictions. The permitting process ensures that businesses are in compliance with current regulations and that public spaces are safely shared by pedestrians and businesses. Since not all proposed uses require a permit, it is important for businesses to review the COVID-19 Emergency Response Toolkit for Businesses.

If you are a business owner looking to expand outdoors due to capacity restrictions, please read the toolkit, found at https://www.cityofbrevard.com/472/COVID-19-Use-Permit.

The City of Brevard encourages businesses to think creatively about using both private and public spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic. Contact the City of Brevard Planning Department at (828) 885-5630 or at 95 W. Main Street Brevard, NC 28712 with questions regarding the use of spaces and the COVID-19 Use Permit processes. The City Planning staff look forward to working with Brevard businesses in developing creative responses to COVID-19 that enhance the local economy.
