If you are uncertain of your can size, look for a label or imprint on the side or bottom of your can. Most plastic cans have an imprint that indicates the gallon size. The City collects cans of your choice up to 32 gallons. Both residential and commercial customers may place up to four (4) cans each collection day depending on your collection route at the curb. You may notice 32 gallon cans are much smaller than our 96 gallon recycle carts. The recycle carts are larger and very heavy in weight and we utilize cart tipper mechanisms for lifting them onto a truck during disposal. Our regular garbage collection is provided with manual labor by our Sanitation staff and limiting the size to 32 gallons helps our employees limit accidents or injury.
If you are unsure if your garbage can is acceptable, feel free to contact our office at 884-2171 Option 4. We will be happy to send a supervisor to inspect your garbage can. Check out all of our Sanitation services provided by visiting our webpage under the City Service Tab / Garbage & Recycling.
Thank you for helping keep our employees safe and Brevard beautiful!
