Project Update Image

City Officials updated Bethel “A” Trustees on upcoming projects in the Rosenwald Community on Friday October 25th.

By way of background, Bethel “A” Baptist Church recently donated Silversteen Memorial Playground and Parking Lot to the City of Brevard. The Mary C. Jenkins Community Center Board donated their property to the City of Brevard in 2017. The Brevard City Fire Department conducted a controlled burn of the old Community Center building on October 29, 2018 and the site was cleared. Tannery Park was created with a grant awarded to the City of Brevard in 2014 by the North Carolina State Parks Grant Program.

Mayor Jimmy Harris stated “This is truly a great partnership between the City of Brevard and Bethel “A” Baptist Church and the Rosenwald Community” and he added “with these donated parcels the City can make the necessary public investment for betterment of our community.”

Maurice Jones, Brevard City Council Member, and Chairman of the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center Task Force provided an update. Jones stated “I would like to thank the Bethel “A” Baptist Church Board of Trustees and the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center Board” for working with the City of Brevard, and went on to say “these truly are exciting times to see a new community center, playground improvements, Norton Creek Stream Restoration, new parking lot and the extension of the Estatoe Trail to the Rosenwald Community.”

Jones reported that the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center Task Force has met 20 times since its formation in January, 2018 and will be presenting the preliminary design of a new community center at the Brevard City Council Fall Retreat on November 6 at 5:30PM. The meeting will be held at the City Council Chambers, 95 West Main Street, Brevard.
