The Joint Historic Preservation Commission (JHPC) is a commission established by the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners tasked with "the processing of applications for certificates of appropriateness for any changes in the external appearance of designated historic districts or landmarks." The JHPC meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 4:15 p.m. in the Community Services Building Conference Room (106 E Morgan Street).
There are currently two historic districts and twelve historic buildings/structures within the City of Brevard. Any alterations to the exteriors of buildings or structures within the historic districts or the individually recognized buildings outside a district must receive a Certificate of Appropriateness from the JHPC before a city permit can be issued.
You can visit the JHPC's website to learn about the historic structures in Brevard and Transylvania County, view meeting minutes, and learn more about the designation process.
