The Railroad Avenue/King Street/Whitmire Street neighborhood is undergoing a period of transition. In recent years, long-standing businesses in the area have moved elsewhere or simply gone out of business. The public infrastructure and many private properties are aged and in need of significant improvement.
City Council Direction
Brevard City Council has directed the City Planning Department to develop a small area plan under the guidance and direction of the City of Brevard Planning Board. This plan will, among other things, help identify strategies for promoting and supporting the revitalization and redevelopment of the area, assess current and future infrastructure needs, identify and prioritize code enforcement issues that should be addressed, and set the stage for shifts in City policy and public investments with respect to the neighborhood.
Before staff presents the final draft recommendations to the Planning Board a final round of public input will be held for residents of the area to provide feedback on the plan's recommendations. In addition to these meetings, a survey will also be distributed to residents and property owners.
The public input period on the draft plan has closed. Thank you to all who attended the input sessions and completed surveys!
The Brevard Planning Board approved the draft version of the plan as presented at their meeting Tuesday, August 19.
The plan now will go to City Council for adoption.
