Terrell "Terry" L. Scruggs
Terrell L. Scruggs was a native to Brevard and was a loved family member, treasured coworker and friend. This scholarship fund is presented to deserving students as a means to honor Mr. Scruggs and his family. As colleague, friend, and scholarship board chairman, Chief Phil Harris states, "Terry, a graduate of Brevard High School, was not only a proponent of higher education, he was a product of it. He had an undergraduate degree from Mars Hill College and a Masters in Business Administration from Appalachian State University. His example in life is what we would like to pass on in his name. This [scholarship] is one way to accomplish that goal."
Terry Scruggs spent 17 years with the City of Brevard as the Finance Director. Before that time, he was Vice President of Brevard Federal Savings and Loan. Terry was known for his positive customer relationships built on professionalism and servant leadership. Terry was also an active member in Glady Branch Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Karyn Scruggs Roth and husband, Chip Roth of Raleigh, NC, and son Jeff T. Scruggs. Terry took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. They include Emma and Blake Roth of Raleigh, and Jaxson and Cooper Scruggs of Brevard.
